RUSHEY GREEN PRIMARY SCHOOL

A new build two-form entry primary school and nursery situated on a large green site in a residential conservation area. the brief was to improve teaching and learning spaces whilst creating new facilities for joint use by the school and wider community. The project was partly funded by the development of 24 apartments on a corner of the school site.

The main learning area consists of four blocks, angled in different directions to create a sense of enclosure and ownership of the outside space for the ground floor classrooms. These four blocks are linked on two storeys by an active circulation zone it from above with coloured glazing.

Play areas have been re-landscaped to maximise the school's enjoyment of its green site; and the hall and community space are over-sailed by a green roof terminating in an open air grass amphitheatre which adds to the existing verdant landscape and creates further wildlife habitats.
